MATCH PREVIEW | Valkyrie and Rhinos go head to head in pick of the round this Sunday

Another blockbusting clash for Leeds Rhinos in the Betfred Women's Super League sees them travel to the LNER Community Stadium to take on York Valkyrie on Sunday afternoon, kick off 3pm.

The final game of round two pits last year's semi-finalists against each other, after York defeated Leeds on their way to securing back-to-back Super League titles. So far this year, both sides have missed out on a Challenge Cup Final appearance and are looking to secure their first league win of 2025 in a hotly anticipated clash.

Here's your match preview for the contest:

Opposition

Defending champions York Valkyrie played their best rugby when it mattered in 2024 as they fought to finish in third place before defeating Leeds and St Helens on the road to lifting their second successive Super League title under Lindsay Anfield.

Looking to become the first team in the Super League era to win three titles in a row, the season hasn't got off to the best possible start as a clash against high-flying Wigan ended with the Valkyrie suffering a 40-6 defeat. Savannah Andrade added to her five tries in the Challenge Cup competition as the only try scorer in the game, whilst Ellie Williamson's goal added to the 46 points she's scored in all competitions in 2025.

Williamson has been part of a recruitment drive to keep York at the top of the UK competition, as the former St George Illawarra Dragon brought her experience in the NRLW across from Australia as the club's new half back. Former Leeds players Tara Moxon and Zoe Hornby both signed up for the Valkyrie too - Hornby made her debut against the Warriors having been announced earlier that week - plus Izzy Bibby, Jazz Rampton and Demi Fisher have also been brought into the fold by Anfield to compete alongside established stars Eboni Partington, Sinead Peach and Tamzin Renouf.

Megan Pakulis has also impressed since the loose forward joined the Valkyrie in 2024, but the NRLW have been quick to snap up the Canadian international as she joins Gold Coast Titans later this year.

Back-to-back home games see Leeds and St Helens visit the LNER Community Stadium as the Valkyrie look to return to winning ways, especially against Saints who knocked them out of the Challenge Cup. Previous meetings against Leeds started as one-sided, but recent clashes have proved much tighter especially heading into semi finals and Grand Finals. The Rhinos were unbeaten against York between 2018 and 2022 as they won nine consecutive games in all competitions, but a change in 2022 saw the Valkyrie fight back to win both league games that year but fall in the season finale. Since then, the club has won four of their last six meetings against Lois Forsell's side, and drawn once in a 12-12 stalemate in 2023.
